As the sun sets and darkness forms, the audience is invited to disappear - to slip through the human world of concrete and electricity, streetlights and supermarkets, in search of something other; birds calling out from the rooftops, rats skidding through the rubbish, an indistinct howl, a movement, a flicker of something glimpsed out of the corner of your eye. Nocturne scratches beneath the surface of the city to find an older, stranger, less familiar place underneath. For one night, we will follow furred and feathered ghosts into the darkest parts of the night, and find there a city haunted by the wilderness that preceded it.
Created by an international team of artist and developed in collaboration with local night workers in the city, Nocturne is part performance, part walk, part workshop. It is a song of the night that leads you to the overlooked parts of the city where we can glance through the cracks of civilisation.
