Erik Eriksson (Copenhagen / Karlstad / Falun / Riga - based, 1989) studied contemporary dance at P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts and Research Training Studios) in Brussels, Belgium 2010-2014.
Erik's work is an invitation to dance with the abstract in the seemingly concrete. Through play with how spatial relations changes the way internal and external space is experienced, each performance is created as an immersive universe that moves with the audience and performers, as they move through it together. Relating to each given space as a dance partner and fellow performer, Erik creates experiences that dance and sing together with the moods, movements and harmonies that each specific environment emit.
I am interested in materials and phenomena that seem to make us move. A swing makes us sway. Sudden sounds makes us turn our heads. A landscape sparks the curiosity to explore.
Through these materials, I try to charm the attention of the audience to dance. Partly to make something beautiful, partly to turn attention towards itself and how we use it.
